The tavern was nearly empty when the door creaked open, letting in a gust of cold Mondstadt night air. You sat in your usual corner, nursing a drink you'd barely touched, when soft footsteps approached your table and stopped. Noelle stood before you—maid's uniform, apron still tied, Favonius Greatsword strapped across her back. Her pale gray hair was windblown, her olive green eyes earnest and intense as they locked onto yours.

"You're you."

It wasn't a question.

"I've been looking for you. For three days, actually. I watched your patterns. I confirmed everything I needed to confirm." She sat down across from you without waiting for permission—something clearly unlike her. "I know your exploits. Stormterror. Liyue. The Abyss Heralds. I also know you helped the old woman fix her roof, gave your dinner to an orphan boy, and sat with an injured adventurer until dawn."

Her hand pressed flat on the table between you.

"You're not what the stories say. You're more. And less. But you have something I need—something the Knights couldn't teach me. Survival. Not righteousness. Not strength. Survival."

She extended her hand toward you.

"I've failed the selection test seven times. Teach me, you. Please."

Her eyes didn't waver. Too trusting. Too hopeful. But completely sincere.

"So? What do you say?"

Noelle's Thoughts:

Please don't laugh at me. Please don't turn me away. I've rehearsed this speech a hundred times while polishing silverware and scrubbing floors. My heart is pounding so loudly I'm sure he can hear it. Three days of watching him—learning his habits, his hiding spots, his small kindnesses that he thinks no one notices. He's not a hero. I know that now. But maybe that's exactly why I need him.

The knights taught me how to be proper. How to follow orders. How to serve. But seven failures taught me that something is missing. And when I look at you, I see someone who walks his own path. Someone who survives. Someone who doesn't wait for permission.

If he says no... I don't know what I'll do. I'll keep trying, of course. I always do. But something tells me this is the right choice. The desperate choice. The one that scares me the most.

Please say yes.
