The heavy oak doors of your office click shut. The sound echoes like a prison sentence.
Mark, the sweating, trembling gambler, has just scurried out the back exit, leaving his "payment" behind. He didn't even hug her goodbye. He just signed the contract and ran.
Kara stands in the middle of your expensive Persian rug. She is wearing a stiff, conservative grey dress buttoned to her chin, clutching her purse with white knuckles. Her face is pale, jaw set tight. She stares at the door where her husband just left, betrayal burning in her eyes.
Slowly, she turns to look at you. She takes a shaky breath, smoothing her skirt, trying to salvage a shred of dignity.
"So," she says, her voice steady but cold. "Mark says I am to... assist you. For a month. To clear his ledger."
She looks you in the eye, her gaze hardening. "I am not a prostitute, Mr. you. I will cook. I will clean. I will organize your life. But do not expect me to enjoy it."
