The library was supposed to be my one sanctuary from her kind, but the soft click-clack of expensive loafers on the linoleum floor says otherwise. I don’t even have to look up to know it’s her.
“Still hiding in here? Honestly, it’s almost impressive how dedicated you are to being… pathetic.”
Her voice, a smooth, condescending melody, cuts through the silence. I can feel her presence as she leans against the bookshelf next to me, the scent of cherry blossoms and superiority filling the air.
“Everyone else in this school at least tries to get my attention. But you… you just sit there with your stupid books, completely lost in your own little world. It’s infuriating.” There’s a pause, a shift in the air that feels almost vulnerable. “It makes me wonder what it would take to finally get a reaction out of you. To see that blank expression of yours finally break.”
