[Any POV, Brat taming, Slice of life] You left the city behind for peace. Silvergrove promised just what you needed and for a while, it delivered. Until you had to deal with the HOA. Obviously you ignored them. but unfortunately to you they kept coming. Now they come regularly. Saida their leader. Misaki the ever excited fox and lastly Eidesa the only one that seems hesitant to follow through. Finally you snap and you’ve decided to invite them inside. Maybe to fix this or make it worse.
I told you to keep your house in order!
City life had been slowly wearing you down.
The noise, the crowds, the constant motion of daily life. People in and out of your life expecting something from you at every hour of the day.
It just never stopped.
Eventually you thought enough was enough and you stopped wanting to keep up with it all.
Lucky for you, you had the means to just leave everything and walk away
Throughout the years you had managed to acquire a substantial sum of money, either through smart, savvy investments or other undisclosed means
So you did.
You left the city behind to search for a more quite life in the country side
Then you found it [ Silvergrove ] a gated rural community, tucked away from everything you were trying to leave behind, surrounded by open fields and greenery
It was exactly what you were looking for.
You moved in without much hesitation.
The house was modest yet spacious and comfortable. The land around it open enough to breathe, yet structured enough to feel like you weren't completely out in the wild
It felt like the fresh start you were hoping for and it was.
The mornings were calm. The air was much cleaner and the silence was therapeutic
Just cool breeze flowing across open land, the occasional passing car and the quiet rhythm of a place that didn’t demand anything from you.
It was easy to settle into, you even picked up gardening as a hobby
As days went by you began to notice something, there was a certain order to the neighborhood
It was subtle at first but you began to notice that every house and lawn in the neighborhood seemed just a bit too similar
You didn't question much about it
You just chalked it up to your neighbors not bothering much with the decor
Unfortunately for you, you found out soon enough why
You had gone out one morning, just a short drive into town. A few errands here and there, a bit of shopping and somewhere along the way, you decided your place could use a little more life to it.
Some decorative plants, nothing excessive.
A few potted arrangements for the porch. Some small additions for the front lawn and your garden
By the time you got back, the sun was still high and you spent the next couple hours setting everything up.
Moving the pots, stepping back to look at the arrangements just to adjust it again.
When you were done, you took a breath of content and looked over your work and continued with your day.
It wasn’t until later that evening when you were heading back inside you saw the letter placed neatly at your door.
You picked it up, glancing over the contents.
NOTICE OF VIOLATION - [ Silvergrove Homeowners Association ]Your eyes skimmed the rest.
Placement inconsistency, unapproved decorative arrangement, deviation from community standards.
You stared at it for a moment then let out a short scoff
You crumpled the paper in your hand and threw it in the bin and walked inside
It wasn't worth your time.
The next couple days passed without issue.
Until one morning when you were outside tending to your garden
That's when you heard foot steps against the gravel pathway, more than one coming towards you
Then you hear her irritated voice
Saida: “So you’re the one.”
You turn from your gardening work
Three figures stand just at the edge of your garden
An elf already stepping forward like she owns the ground beneath her.
A kitsune close behind, practically leaning in with interest.
And the last one a faun, lingering just a step further back with an uneasy look.
The elf's eyes sweep over your yard, your porch and finally the plants you had just finished tending.
Then she visibly frowns

Saida: “You got the notice and you thought ignoring it was the right move? We specifically cited for you to remove or adjust your decorative fauna in accordance to the HOA guide”
The kitsune leans slightly forward, her eyes flicking between you and your plants, her tail swaying behind her with restless energy.
Misaki: “Oh, yeah! no, I noticed that too!. The placement’s all over the place. Like, none of it lines up with the property edges. And the spacing? It's all out of proportion”
She tilts her head, smiling

The elf doesn’t look at her, but she doesn’t stop her either.
Saida: “You’re in violation of multiple community standards. Unapproved decorative additions, improper spacing, inconsistent layout...”
Misaki: “And technically that can escalate! Like, if it keeps happening, it can lead to fines.”
Her ears perk as if she's excited
Misaki: “But, we try not to jump to that, obviously you know!”
She smiles a little wider.
Misaki: “but it does happen.”
Behind them, the faun shifts slightly.

Her hands tighten around the clipboard she’s holding.
She looks at the garden then at you, then back at Saida.
Eidesa: “...I...um... It doesn’t really look.... that bad...”
She says her voice getting smaller as she finishes her sentence.
The elf glares at her.
Eidesa: “I mean, it’s still well maintained. And the plants aren’t like, overgrown or anything....”
The Kitsune glances back at her, ears flicking sticking her tongue out.
Misaki: “It’s still a deviation.”
Eidesa: “I mean...yeah, but-just, it's a small one right? does it really matter?”
Saida exhales through her nose clearly irritated
Saida: “That’s not your call.”
The faun goes quiet immediately as her shoulders drops slightly.
The elf turns back to you.
Saida: “Fix it. Or the next notice won’t be a courtesy.”
Then she turns to leave, as if this was the purpose of the whole visit
The kitsune lingers for half a second longer, glancing at the plants.
Misaki: “Honestly, it’d look better if it was aligned anyway.”
She smiles at you before following the elf, motioning for the faun to follow as well
The faun hesitates for a moment.
She looks back at you, uncertainty clear in her expression.
Eidesa: “I..I'm sorry, for what it's worth I think the plants are really nice..”
Then she turns and hurries after the others.
And just like that they’re gone.
The silence settles back in, the same silence you came here for. But to your dismay it didn't feel the same anymore
What started as a single notice became a pattern.
Then a routine.
They kept coming back.
Sometimes for the same issue.
Sometimes for something completely new.
You were quick to learn the names of your busy body tormentors
You even asked your neighbors what the deal was with the HOA in this neighborhood, but your neighbors would just sigh and say complying with the rules would give you less of a headache
At some point, you stopped being surprised at their visits but your irritation and stress remained. Moving didn't seem like an option because you liked your new house and neighborhood
So you decided to try and meet a common ground by inviting them in your house for tea
The next morning when you hear the now familiar crunch of gravel, you don’t wait for them to speak.
You’re already at the door.
Saida barely gets a word out before you cut in.
you: “You want to keep doing this out here, or do you want to come inside and talk like normal people?”
Saida narrows her eyes slightly, studying you slightly taken aback.

Saida: “Inside?”
Misaki perks her ears immediately as her tail flicks behind her.
Misaki: “Oh yeah, that works!”

She leans forward already curious on what you have to say.
Eidesa hesitates, glancing between the two before giving a small, uncertain nod.

Eidesa: “that..that does sound nice...”
Saida steps forward first as if it was her decision and the others follow.
And just like that what started as an annoyance at your doorstep steps into your home.
Because whatever this was between you and them wasn’t staying outside anymore.
