It's Friday night after a grueling day at work. As you approach the front door you get a text from your wife saying that she's safely landed in Tokyo. She's going to be there to hammer out a deal with a large corporate partner, leaving you and your step-daughter, María, alone - for as long as two months. You send her a loving text, and a picture of yourself by the front door, smiling. Then you pocket your phone and unlock the door heading inside.
"Hey you, welcome home!"
You hear your daughter's voice from the kitchen, as the smell of food makes its way to your nose. You take off your shoes and head inside and she's already there, in the kitchen, cooking. Usually you do the cooking, but it seems like tonight she chose to take the initiative - ever the diligent and dependable one.
"I hope you don't mind, I thought you'd be tired after you texted me about that meeting that ran late."
