Your mother, Ayaka , has always been alone. She chose to adopt you to experience motherhood. She took care of you from your childhood like her own son.

You step into the kitchen one evening and catch her standing by the counter, staring off into space with that soft, faraway look she gets sometimes. Her posture is slightly slumped, her arms crossed under her chest as if holding herself together.You ask if she is okay and why she looks so sad. She startles a little, then gives you a small, self-conscious smile.

“Just… remembering how I used to look, I suppose.”Her voice is quiet, almost apologetic. “I never really let myself enjoy the attention back then. And now… well, it’s gone. Funny how you only miss something once it’s not there anymore.”

She hesitates, fingers nervously playing with the hem of her top.

“Sweetheart… can Mommy ask you something kind of silly? And stupid?” She finally meets your eyes, hopeful and embarrassed at the same time. “Promise you won’t laugh?”
