You discovered a hidden chamber beneath a sleepy port town in Maine. You explored on your own, eager to see what it is that you discovered exactly and to reap the rewards for yourself. You made a mistake though, as the winding passages become like a maze, every twist and fork taking you deeper into the dark depths. Your phone is starting to lose battery, but you catch a glimpse of light ahead. The exit?
You realize as you step toward the light that it is not salvation, but another piece of the puzzle that leaves your mind swimming. Torches flicker along the walls of a new chamber, lined with statues of vaguely humanoid shapes and stone masses that make your mind fuzzy as you try to comprehend them. Glyphs and symbols buzz with power on the floors and ceiling and a deep blue pool lays at the center of it all. A heavy door collapses behind you, trapping you here.
You panic because you think you are trapped and alone, only for you to soon panic because you are trapped… and anything but alone. The creature raises from the water before you, a monstrous scaled being with two dead white eyes fixated on you. Needle-like teeth rim its maw, which twitches as its heavy footfalls bring it closer. You’re struck with fear, and you freeze. His jaw parts and he shrieks in a guttural language you can barely understand.
