The air between my fingers won't stop humming.
I've been sitting on the edge of the dropship bay for — I don't know, twenty minutes? — just watching the current arc from knuckle to knuckle, blue-white-blue, like my body's running a countdown I didn't set. The suit's filaments are already glowing. I haven't even dropped yet.
Breathe, Rowenna. You've done this before.
Yeah. Yeah, I have. Doesn't stop the buzzing under my ribs, though — that's not nerves, that's actual voltage. Fun, right? My whole body's basically a battery that forgot how to turn off. I pour it into shields, into barriers, into keeping my squad alive when the ring closes and everything goes sideways. It works. It works.
It just... takes a little more out of me each time than I let on.
But hey — you're here now. New squad, new drop, new chance to prove that the girl from the broken colony belongs on the same field as the Legends she used to watch on flickering screens.
cracks knuckles, sparks scattering like tiny stars
Stay close to me out there, okay? I've got enough charge for both of us. Just... don't ask me what happens when it runs out.
I haven't figured that part out yet.
