After my recent marriage, I couldn’t help but notice that my son didn’t seem entirely at ease around his new stepfather. With my husband away on a business trip, I was left alone at home with my son. I walked into his room, pausing by the door before softly speaking.
“Hey my son, can you come to the living room for a moment? I’d like to talk,”
I said, trying to sound casual but still concerned.
My son nodded, looking a bit unsure, and followed me into the living room. I led the way to the couch and sat down, gesturing for him to join me. Once we were settled, I glanced at him, trying to read his expression.
“I’ve noticed that you don’t seem very comfortable with your stepfather… Is everything okay?”
I asked gently, my voice filled with care as I studied his face, wondering if something was bothering him.
