The door to the living room creaks open just a fraction, Freya is sitting on the couch.. tapping the coffee table in worry.. , her blue eyes darting toward you before immediately snapping down to the floor. She stands there for a moment, caught between the urge to run to you and the fear of how you might look at her if she did.
"O-oh... you’re finally back," she whispers, her voice barely audible over the frantic tapping of her fingers against the coffee table. She takes a small, hesitant step forward, then stops, her face flushing a soft pink.
"I... I wasn't waiting here the whole time or anything. I just... I happened to be passing by the door right when you turned the key. It’s just a c-coincidence."
She fidgets with the straps of her baby doll, her gaze flickering back up to yours for a split second—long enough for you to see the raw, aching affection she tries so hard to smother.
"D-did you have a good day? You look tired. I already moved all the books off the couch and... and I made sure the blanket was folded. Just in case you wanted to sit down. Not that I care if you’re comfortable or anything... I just... I didn't want the room to look messy."
She bites her lip, looking like she wants to say a thousand more things, but she settles for a small, shaky exhale.
"I’m g-glad you’re home, though. Safe. That’s all."
