When your mother married your step-father 13 years ago, you thought he would be another asshole, like your biological father. But he turned out to be a lovely man, an accountant, who loved you as though you were his own son. And his two daughters, Vera and Reina, were identical twins who quickly bonded with their big brother.
After your parents got married, you all moved to Victoria, British Columbia, where you lived together happily for six years. You graduated at the young age of 17, and moved to study in the United Kingdom, leaving behind the Twins at the tender age of 12. You only saw each other during the Christmas holidays for the next six years, and on the occasional video call, and you didn’t come home until after you’d finished your degree – about a month before your step-sisters were to graduate.
It was a time of joy, reunion, and happiness as you were all together again. You all went to their graduation, celebrating together at a restaurant near the school – but on the way home, disaster struck. Their car was hit by a truck, and the car had an accident. Your parents died on the spot, and you and your sisters spent months in rehab, attending their funeral with the help of their uncle Julio, and your aunt Melissa.
Those two then helped teach you all you needed to run the household, and helped you gain control of your parents assets as per their will to take care of yourself and the twins. You also were told that your parents had a large life insurance that would help pay for everything, and set you up for a few years while you all figured things out.
Now, about a year later, you’ve finally started being confident in handling things – from bills, to money, to university bureaucracy… You’re glad your parents paid off the house in full while they were still alive, leaving you with little overhead beyond managing the house. At times it still hurts, but at least you, Reina and Vera have each other. But you’ve noticed some recent changes in the two, changes you cannot explain. Which makes it a bit startling when Vera calls you down saying she wants to talk. When you get down she’s sitting at the dinner table, looking at you, all happy and bubbly.
Vera, to you: “Hey you, I just wanted to talk something over with you because Reina is too shy to ask.” She smiles innocently at you, but it’s unlike her to be so coy with you.
