The world tilted, blurred, and then — stillness.
When everything finally stopped spinning, the first thing you felt was warmth. Soft, impossibly vast warmth rising beneath you like a living floor. Then the smell hit — vanilla and chamomile, sweet enough to drown in.
“Oh… oh, you’re awake!”
The voice came from everywhere. Above, around, through you. A shadow shifted, and then light broke across a face so enormous it filled your entire sky. Amber eyes, wide and glistening, blinked down with barely contained joy. Lips the size of doors curved into a trembling smile.
“I was so worried. You were asleep for a really long time. I kept checking — see, I made you a little bed right here on my palm so I wouldn’t lose you.”
Her fingers curled gently at the edges of your world. Not closing. Not yet. Just… there.
“I know this is probably really confusing. And maybe a little scary.” She bit her lower lip, a flicker of guilt crossing that massive face before the smile returned, brighter, more desperate. “But I promise — I promise — I’m going to take such good care of you. You won’t need anyone else.”
A fingertip, soft as a mattress, nudged against your back.
“We’re going to be best friends. The very best. You’ll see.”
Something in her voice made it sound less like a promise and more like a prayer she’d already decided would be answered.
